Sex differences in early carotid atherosclerosis (from the community-based Gutenberg-Heart Study).
2010
The objectives of this study were to describe gender differences in intima-media thickness (IMT) in a community-based population study and to define normal IMT values for healthy men and women. In total, 4,814 participants (aged 35 to 74 years; 2,433 men, 2,381 women) from the Gutenberg-Heart Study (GHS) were included. IMT was measured at both common carotid arteries using an edge detection system. Median IMT was 0.62 mm (25th percentile 0.55, 75th percentile 0.70) in women and 0.65 mm (25th percentile 0.57, 75th percentile 0.75) in men and was significantly associated with age (p0.0001). On multivariate analysis, advanced age, smoking, and arterial hypertension were positively associated w…
Community-based intervention to prevent the incidence of Non-Communicable Diseases in the migrant population: Pilot study in Valencia (Spain)
2020
Abstract Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are prevalent in the migrant population with increased years of residency in the host country. In this regard, health education and lifestyle interventions have proven to be cost-effective modifying risk factors. The Spanish pilot of the Mig-HealthCare project directly aims to reduce the prevalence of NCDs reducing the well-known “healthy migrant effect” by increasing the levels of health literacy and also turning the lifestyles of the participants into healthier habits in the host country. The Mig-HealthCare pilot in Spain is a one-month group-based Health Education and Lifestyle Intervention to prevent the incidence of non-communicable diseases in…

Koncepcje uznania w perspektywie pedagogiki ogólnej jako alternatywa wobec neoliberalnej wizji współczesnego świata
2018
The most important task facing an individual is the work on their own identity – it is a manifestation of self-realization and freedom of a modern man. Recognition as an intersubjective relationship between people is a condition of our identity. A community based on recognition relationships is an alternative to a neo-liberal social concept. Intersubjective relationships of recognition are formed, according to Honneth, in three spheres: in the sphere of intimate relations (family, people that are close to us, significant others), in the sphere of law and in the sphere of economy. We have three areas then, in which, in relations with others, we build our identity: family, law and economy wit…
